At Yale University, all academic-related facilities are managed by one of the two facilities
organizations: the Office of Facilities on Central Campus, and Facilities Development &
Operations at the School of Medicine. This management responsibility includes the manner in which
work is assigned and executed. These decisions, and the coordination of all facilities-related
activities, are crucial to a variety of safety and operational issues, as well as, to the adherence
to the terms and conditions of the labor contract.
While we understand the need to expedite the completion of work requests, current policy requires
that facilities services from external vendors be acquired directly by representatives of one of the
two facilities offices. We welcome, of course, your comments and suggestions on the manner in which
these services are provided.
