As we start the 2003 summer construction season, Yale University is planning a series of projects that will affect the streets of New Haven. A map of Yale's central campus has been prepared showing the locations of the most significant of these disruptions. The following is a listing of the on-going major projects and other major projects starting this summer, which may have an impact on the City rights of way through the summer and into the fall semester:

Vanderbilt Hall    This project is the comprehensive renovation of this building, with work scheduled to complete in August 2003. The majority of the construction activities, will be off-street on the Old Campus site, however access will be from Chapel Street.

Yale University Art Gallery    This project, not yet authorized by the Yale Corporation, is the intended renovation of the existing new art gallery at the corner of York and Chapel Streets. Because of the construction activities, there may be intermittent disruptions on Chapel Street; however the majority of the ongoing effect of the work is expected to occur on York Street at the west end of the building. In addition, the Construction Manager intends to use the vacant lot at 200 York Street for the storage of materials. The work is scheduled for completion in February of 2005.

Yale Repertory Theatre    The purpose of this project is to replace the deteriorated sidewalk in front of the building. It is expected that the work will be of limited duration.

Pierson College    This project is the comprehensive renovation of the College, with the added construction of a new structure behind the University Theatre. The construction activity will continue until August 2004. During this time, there will be intermittent disruptions in York Street adjacent to the College. The frontage along Park Street will be affected throughout the construction period.

Sprague Memorial Hall    This project is the on-going comprehensive renovation of this recital hall building. Street and sidewalk disruptions much as they are today are likely to continue into the early August 2003.

Woolsey Hall
The purpose of this project is to replace the deteriorated sidewalk in front of the building. It is expected that the work will be of limited duration.

Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall    The intent of this project is to address the fire protection and life safety needs of the building, and the work will continue into the Fall 2003 semester. While a certain amount of access will be achieved from the back side of the building, construction activities and street disruptions are likely at the corner of Grove and Prospect Streets

Sterling Law Building    Because of the explosion late in May, there is a necessary repair project to restore the damaged spaces. It is expected there will be some construction activity located on York Street, adjacent to the building. The scope of this activity is not known at this time, however it is hoped that work will be completed by the end of August 2003.

Payne Whitney Gymnasium    The scope of this project includes the renovation of second, third and fourth floor locker rooms. The work started earlier this year and is scheduled for completion in August 2003. Intermittent disruptions may occur at the Tower Parkway entrance to the building as construction materials are delivered

Yale Police Facility    Located at the corner of Lock and Ashmun Streets, the proposed new Police Facility is currently in design, and has not yet been approved for construction by the Yale Corporation. During the summer and into the fall there may be minor disruptions as the site is prepared for construction.

Directly to the north of the existing Kline Chemistry Building and located near 285 Prospect Street, the new Chemistry Research Building has its construction start slated for July of this summer.
